Community Workshop Health Security Partners (HSP) and ROMCHIMICA

Health Security Partners (HSP) and ROMCHIMICA successfully co-hosted a high-level workshop on the Risk Management of Hazardous and Dual-Use Chemicals. This training was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction.

The two-day workshop brought together industry representatives, government regulators, and safety specialists from across Romania to strengthen the country’s collective defenses against chemical incidents and accidents.

The workshop provided participants with practical frameworks to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the entire lifecycle of hazardous chemicals.

Cultivating a culture of safety is a priority in the chemical sector, and the aim of the workshop was to foster a proactive, daily commitment to chemical security among all parties involved.

Developing coordinated, rapid-response protocols between private facilities and public emergency services to handle chemical incidents and accidents is a desire of the local chemical industry and supports better public-private partnership including alignment with the European industry-led Intervention in Chemical Transport Emergencies (ICE) scheme.

The workshop concluded with a tabletop simulation exercise, where attendees applied their existing and newly acquired risk-mitigation knowledge to real-world industrial and security crisis scenarios.
